How the model works
Every full user holds one base licence for the most expensive app they need, at list price. Any further Dynamics 365 app for that same user is an attach licence at a flat reduced rate. Light users take a Team Member licence (read, approve, time and expense); shared terminals take a Device licence; Finance and Operations adds an Activity tier for limited transactions.
The whole model, with a role-by-role picker table, is in Dynamics 365 licensing explained. For keeping the bill honest over time, read licence optimisation and TCO modelling.
Frequently asked questions
How is Dynamics 365 priced?
- Per named user per month on an annual commitment, per app. Every user's first app is a full-price base licence; further apps for the same user are discounted attach licences. Team Member, Activity, and Device licences cover light and shared-terminal users at lower rates.
Are these the prices I will actually pay?
- They are Microsoft's US list prices. Regional price lists differ, Enterprise Agreements and CSP partners discount from list, and promotions come and go. Use them to size a budget, then get a quote.
How current are the figures?
- Figures marked verified were read from Microsoft's public pricing pages on 2026-09-03. Attach rates, add-ins, and device licences are not on those pages; they come from the licensing guide and are marked approximate.
What costs come on top of licences?
- Implementation and partner services (often equal to or larger than year-one licences), ISV apps from AppSource, Dataverse or database storage beyond the included capacity, extra environments, Copilot credits, and usage-based channels such as telephony and SMS.
