Do I need Power BI if I already have Dynamics 365?

Only if you need reporting beyond what's built in. Every Dynamics 365 app ships with native dashboards, charts, and embedded Power BI tiles using a Power BI licence bundled for basic use; a separate, fully licensed Power BI (Pro or Premium) is for cross-system reporting, self-service report authoring, sharing outside the app, or data volumes and refresh needs the embedded experience doesn't cover.

The built-in reporting inside each Dynamics 365 app answers most operational questions a user of that specific app has day to day. Power BI as a separate product earns its keep the moment reporting needs to combine data from multiple systems (Dynamics 365 plus a data warehouse, plus a different SaaS tool), needs a broader audience than the app's own licensed users, or needs report-authoring capability the embedded experience doesn't offer.

A common mistake is buying full Power BI licences for every Dynamics 365 user by default. Start with what's built in; add standalone Power BI licensing specifically for the users who need to author or consume cross-system reports, not the whole user base.
