Dynamics 365 Sales Professional or Enterprise?

By Emil Björk · Microsoft business apps consultant, Gothenburg

Professional for standard pipeline management on out-of-the-box entities with light customisation; Enterprise the moment you need custom entities beyond the small allowance, hierarchical territories, product bundles, embedded intelligence, or the full sales-forecasting model. Enterprise is roughly double the price — the break-even is 'do I need customisation and forecasting' not headcount.

Professional's constraints are on purpose. It ships with a capped number of custom entities, no Sales Insights, no forecasting, and limited product configurator. If your process is 'lead → opportunity → close' on Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, and Products, it is genuinely enough. If your sales cycle needs multi-tier product families, quotas rolling up a territory tree, or AI-driven next-best-action, Professional will not stretch and you'll end up buying Enterprise anyway.

The other lever is Copilot for Sales — a separate SKU that adds Outlook/Teams integration and generative summaries. That runs on top of either edition; the Professional-vs-Enterprise choice is about the platform underneath.
