What happened to Dynamics 365 Marketing?
By Emil Björk · Microsoft business apps consultant, Gothenburg
Microsoft rebranded and split it: outbound and real-time features moved into Dynamics 365 Customer Insights — Journeys, and the audience/data side became Dynamics 365 Customer Insights — Data. There is no longer a product called 'Dynamics 365 Marketing' — new deployments buy the Customer Insights bundle, and existing Marketing tenants are on a Microsoft-published migration path.
The rename was not just packaging. Real-time marketing (the newer trigger-based engine) is now the default and the classic outbound campaigns engine is being retired on Microsoft's published timeline. Journeys owns the send-side; Data owns unification, segments, and predictive audiences. Buying either separately is possible but the pair is priced together for a reason — most marketing teams need both halves.
If you're on the classic outbound engine, Microsoft's own transition documentation is the source of truth on cut-over dates. Don't design new work against outbound features that carry a deprecation date; move journeys and content templates to real-time first.
